A quote for a driver is a conversation, not a form that binds you
A useful truck-driver quote starts with how you run (company, owner-operator, CDL holder), who depends on the miles, whether a house payment continues from the road, and whether you already have group life through a carrier. Lily helps you put that in a Life Protection Profile. Lily does not quote or bind coverage.
When you are ready, a licensed insurance professional uses that profile to ask carriers about options. You do not pay AskLily. You are not asked for a Social Security number, bank account, or payment card to talk or to build a profile. Nothing is applied for until you say so, and no one can guarantee that a given carrier will offer a given amount.
Life insurance for truck drivers
Driving a truck is not itself a rating factor for most life insurers; health is. Because DOT medical certification already checks blood pressure, vision and sleep apnea treatment, many drivers have current records that speed underwriting. Untreated sleep apnea, high BMI and tobacco use are the common issues; treated apnea with CPAP compliance is often insurable at standard rates.
The CDL is the credential. The DOT file is the health start
A commercial driver’s license is how insurers and employers know you run commercial miles, not how they set a life-insurance class. Most carriers price the person: age, tobacco, build, blood pressure, and treated conditions. Your DOT medical already collects several of those measurements. Bringing a current card and, when you have it, a sleep-study or CPAP compliance report can keep underwriting from starting from zero.
CDL trainees, new graduates, and long-time holders sit in different seasons: first real over-the-road income, a house paid from the road, or a plan that has to outlast the medical card. The job is the cab. The protection question is who still has bills if the card or the driver stops.
Carrier group life is a start, not a plan that travels
Company drivers often have group life through the carrier: a flat amount or a multiple of pay. It is useful while you are on that board. It typically ends when you change carriers, go lease, or sit out a medical. OTR life means carriers change. A policy you own can stay in force through a new dispatch, a new ELD login, and a new home terminal, subject to its own terms.
The paycheck your family counts on is mileage, detention, and the weeks you are actually turning. Sizing coverage to a W-2 desk formula misses how trucking pays. Lily helps you spell that out in a Life Protection Profile; a licensed insurance professional handles every quote.
How term life insurance works
You choose an amount and a term. If you die during the term, the insurer pays the amount to your beneficiary, generally free of federal income tax. If you outlive the term, the coverage ends; there is no cash value. That simplicity is why term is usually the least expensive way to cover a large need for a defined stretch of years, such as until the mortgage is paid or the children are through school.

Common questions
Will someone call me the minute I open this page?
No. You choose whether to build a profile and when a licensed professional should reach out. There is no countdown and no required purchase.
Can I get a quote without a medical exam?
Sometimes, within a carrier’s age and amount limits, using health questions and records. That is still underwriting, not a promise. See the no-exam truck-driver page for how that differs from guaranteed issue.
What happens when my term life insurance ends?
Coverage stops, or renews year to year at a much higher price if the policy has a renewal provision. Some policies let you convert to permanent coverage before a deadline without a new medical review.
Is a medical exam required for term life?
Not always. Many carriers offer accelerated underwriting that uses your application answers, prescription history and other records instead of an exam, often up to a set coverage amount. Health questions still apply.
Is the death benefit taxable?
Life insurance proceeds paid because of the insured’s death are generally not included in the beneficiary’s gross income for federal tax purposes. Interest earned on proceeds left with the insurer can be taxable. A tax professional can address your situation.
