Same miles, same household math
Women who drive for a living protect the same things other professional drivers do: income, a house, and people who notice when the settlement does not hit. The schedule is still hours of service, home time that slips, and coverage through a carrier that may end when the job does. A page built for women drivers is about that life, not a different kind of policy and not a promise that any carrier prices sex a certain way.
Sex can be one factor a carrier uses, along with age, health, tobacco, amount, and term. Driving a truck is usually not, by itself, a surcharge. A licensed professional can show what is realistic for you. This page does not promise a women’s rate, an approval, or a timeline. AskLily is not an insurance company.
Carrier group life is a start, not a plan that travels
Company drivers often have group life through the carrier: a flat amount or a multiple of pay. It is useful while you are on that board. It typically ends when you change carriers, go lease, or sit out a medical. OTR life means carriers change. A policy you own can stay in force through a new dispatch, a new ELD login, and a new home terminal, subject to its own terms.
The paycheck your family counts on is mileage, detention, and the weeks you are actually turning. Sizing coverage to a W-2 desk formula misses how trucking pays. Lily helps you spell that out in a Life Protection Profile; a licensed insurance professional handles every quote.
Life insurance for truck drivers
Driving a truck is not itself a rating factor for most life insurers; health is. Because DOT medical certification already checks blood pressure, vision and sleep apnea treatment, many drivers have current records that speed underwriting. Untreated sleep apnea, high BMI and tobacco use are the common issues; treated apnea with CPAP compliance is often insurable at standard rates.
Company driver, owner-operator, or somewhere between
Women drive as company drivers, lease operators, owner-operators, and independent contractors. The role changes the gaps: a W-2 booklet, a lease draft, or no benefits at all. It does not change the first question. Who is counting on that income, and what happens to the house if it stops?
Use the role pages if you want the version that matches how you are paid. This page is the one that starts from women who do the work, including drivers who are also the parent holding the household together from the cab.
Why coverage through work is usually not enough
Employer group life is typically one or two times salary, is not portable when you leave, and can end at retirement. It is a helpful base, not a plan. An individual policy you own goes with you between jobs and can be sized to the actual need rather than to a benefit formula.
A licensed professional quotes the person, not a stereotype
Bring what you actually do, who you support, and whether you already have coverage through a carrier or a policy of your own. Health questions still apply on most policies. No-exam paths, when a carrier offers them, skip the paramedical visit and still ask questions. Lily will not tell you that you are approved. AskLily does not sell or bind coverage. You pay a carrier only if a policy is issued.
Common questions
Do women truck drivers pay more because of the job?
The job of driving is usually not a surcharge by itself. Carriers class age, health, tobacco, amount, and term, and sex can be one of those factors. A licensed professional can compare offers. This page will not invent a women's price.
I am the main income and the one who handles the kids. Where do I start?
Start with the income the household would lose and who would have to cover housing and care. That is a Life Protection Profile, not an application. A licensed professional turns it into quotes when you ask. You choose the time. There is no fee to talk.
